A look at the operators, brands and games that claimed top honours at this year’s Global Gaming Awards in London.

Global gaming awards 2020 winners

Like all industries, there are awards ceremonies held to recognise innovation, achievements, and service. The gambling and casino sector has several of these every year, such as the EGR Awards and the International Gaming Awards.

However, in many industry experts’ eyes, the Global Gaming Awards are the casino industry’s equivalent to the Academy Awards for movies.

So, let’s take a look at who lifted the gongs at this year’s showpiece event.

What are the Global Gaming Awards?

It’s fair to say that the Global Gaming Awards (GGA) are the most prestigious and reputable awards within the gambling and gaming industry. Their purpose is to recognise companies and special individuals who are driving this sector forward.

Founded in 2014, there are two GGA ceremonies each year - one held in London and the other in Las Vegas. Each event focuses on companies from that region. Therefore, the London Global Gaming Awards, which was held on the 3rd of February 2020 at the Hippodrome Casino, is the European version.

In total, more than 70 CEOs from the largest gaming companies in the industry get to vote on the winners from each category, with the entire voting process adjudicated by KPMG International.

Global Gaming Awards Winners

There were 16 categories at the 2020 event covering both land-based and online gambling. In addition to casino-specific awards, the GGA also acknowledges sports betting, poker, and bingo.

Furthermore, there are general awards for payment providers, customer service and best CEO. Let’s take a look through the main awards related to the ultra-competitive online gaming sector.

  • Online Casino of the Year: LeoVegas
A major aspect of this award is how online casinos are innovating to replicate the playing experience of a land-based establishment. Among those shortlisted, in addition to the winner LeoVegas, were ComeOn, 888casino, Mr Green, Videoslots and Karamba. LeoVegas does offer a truly exceptional live dealer experience, and potentially this was the deciding factor in the judges’ eyes.
  • Online Casino Supplier of the Year: Evolution Gaming
Evolution Gaming beat off nine other short-listed nominees, which included the mighty Playtech and NetEnt, to win the coveted Online Casino Supplier Award for the second year running. It must be said, Evolution has had an outstanding 12 months. It’s developed a string of new games, such as Super Sic Bo and Lightning Dice to ensure that its portfolio is far and away the best live casino systems operation in the business.
  • Casino Product of the Year: Red Tiger Gaming’s Daily Drop Jackpots
All-round, it was a good day for Red Tiger Gaming - now owned by NetEnt. Gavin Hamilton walked away with the highly-acclaimed CEO of the Year Award, and Red Tiger landed Product of the Year for its Daily Drop Jackpots. This is a linked network of progressive jackpot slots that are guaranteed to pay out before a set time each day. These titles have proved to be a player-magnet as slot spinners crowd in knowing that any spin could win them the randomly-triggered daily jackpot.
  • Payment Solution of the Year: Trustly
It’s not just casino games that continue to evolve, the world of digital payment solutions is a hotbed for innovation. Trustly, for the second year running, won the Payment Solution Award. This was largely due to its gaming-specific Pay ‘N’ Play product. Customers using this don’t need to register an account with the casino; all the KYC information is taken from the users’ online bank account. Thus, making instant deposits and withdrawals has become the new benchmark.

Other notable mentions

Novomatic won the (land-based) Casino Supplier Award for a third time, which is quite some achievement. The magnificent bet365 impressed once again. It left the show with both the Online Sports Betting Operator and Best Affiliate Programme awards. Jackpot Joy was named Online Bingo Operator of the Year while Pokerstars once again came away with the Online Poker gong.

Conclusion

As these awards are voted for by industry peers, every winner fully appreciates the honour of being named. Furthermore, it’s nice to see some new names pushing their way to the top table and getting the recognition they richly deserve.

All eyes will now be on the Global Gaming Awards Las Vegas to see which brands and companies take home the top prizes stateside. Our vision for CasinoAward.net is to one day host our own awards event, and we look forward to inviting you.
