Amaya is an online gambling company. It owns casinos, poker rooms, and sportsbooks. It’s also got casino software to its name.

Amaya casino provider

There are titans in every industry, and Amaya Inc. is most certainly one of them within the online gambling sector. Or, at least it was. Amaya is no longer after it was rebranded into The Stars Group Inc in 2017.

This page will take a closer look at this mega-corporation. We’ll piece together the company’s history, and pay special attention to the casino software that bears its name.

There is very little by way of official timeline milestones (on the corporate website) that take us from the beginning to the present day.

However, from our research, we’ve managed to piece together what we believe to be an accurate sequence of historical events:

  • Amaya Inc. was founded in the early 2000s. It was during these early days that Amaya forged its name as a leader in casino software development. It also performed other business-to-business activities, including sales, distribution and servicing of land-based and interactive gaming solutions.
  • The company had major success, and this led to a series of acquisitions, such as Chartwell Technology. To highlight its growing portfolio of brands, Amaya Inc. changed its name to the Amaya Gaming Group Inc.
  • In 2012, Amaya snapped up another popular casino software company - Cryptologic. This deal also included Cryptologic’s online casino, poker room, and bingo platforms - namely InterCasino, InterPoker, and InterBingo.
  • It sold the three online gambling sites mentioned above in 2014 in order to pursue a deal to buy The Rational Group for a staggering $4.9 billion. This gave Amaya ownership of the world’s two largest online poker sites - Pokerstars and Full Tilt Poker.
  • In 2017, Amaya was officially rebranded to become The Stars Group (TSG). Since then, it has purchased UK-based Sky Betting & Gaming, and the ever-growing Australian brand BetEasy.
  • At the end of 2019, Flutter Entertainment revealed plans of a buyout-merger of TSG. Once this deal is finalised, this new company will be the undisputed king of online gambling.

Amaya Casino Games

With the high number of acquisitions and the various name changes through the years, tracking down pure Amaya casino software is somewhat difficult. With that said, it doesn’t strictly matter. Once these companies were incorporated under the Amaya banner, their developments were part of this brand.

Being one of the big hitters in this space, it comes as little surprise that Amaya software covers all types of casino games. It has a stellar array of table games like blackjack, roulette, baccarat, casino poker, and casino war.

In addition to those, there are several Amaya-branded video poker titles, such as Aces and Faces, Jacks or Better, and All American Deuces Wild.

However, the bulk of the games it has created are video slots, and there have been some fantastic ones to delight players of all tastes.

As we mentioned above, Amaya acquired Cryptologic in 2012. Therefore, some casinos promote these titles under the Amaya brand, while others refer to them as Cryptologic. Anyhow, below are some of the most popular games from this mighty organisation:

  • Oktoberfest: themed on the popular German festival which is famed for its beer-drinking, Oktoberfest will definitely keep you in good spirits. It has a couple of big win features. One that pays out 5,000x your line bet and the other is 2,700 coins with multipliers. The RTP is 94.0%, which is a little low by modern standards, but this is still a fun Amaya casino game.
  • Millionaires Club III: this is the third and final game of the Millionaires Club slots shared progressive jackpot series. As the name suggests, this slot is all about a lavish lifestyle and striking it rich. The game offers a stellar 4,000 coin payout for matching five mansion symbols on a payline. However, it’s the bonus feature which sets this game alight. If you unearth three Jackpot Tokens, you advance on to the layered progressive jackpot bonus wheel where all your dreams can come true.
  • King Kong: Amaya has several branded slots in its collection, of which the legendary gorilla King Kong is one of them. Fans of the Hollywood films will immediately be attracted to this 5-reel, 25-payline game. It has two amazing bonus rounds - King Kong Goes Ape and King Kong Smash. These include free spins, wilds, random wins, and extra bonus scatters.

Casinos featuring Amaya Slots

Amaya has tended to focus more on casinos that accept players from North America. Perhaps, this isn’t surprising given that The Stars Group’s headquarters are in Toronto. These include Big Fish Casino, Vera Vegas, and Gambino.

However, a few of the big European online casinos, such as Slots Million, LeoVegas, and Videoslots now offer a few titles in selected countries.

Amaya Software Conclusion

Based upon our research, Amaya - now TSG - has moved away from casino software development in recent years. There is more of a focus on its business to consumer interests, with brands such as PokerStars, BetStars, and Sky Bet leading the way.

Still, it has left its mark on the casino software industry. Its games are fun, thrilling, and action-packed with features. If you get the chance to play them, you certainly shouldn’t pass up the opportunity.
